OLDHAM’S whit walkers enjoyed parades in glorious sunshine — on one of the year’s hottest days.
The event saw hundreds of people enjoy parades and outdoor services yesterday as the temperature hit 27C.
In Shaw, 250 church-goers took part on a route taking in Rochdale Road and Market Street.
The march was accompanied by Ashton Band and Holy Trinity’s boys brigade band.
Geoff Harrop, committee member of Churches Together said: “Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. The weather was much better than last year when it was pelting down with rain.”
Churches Together in Lees and District, including St John the Baptist Hey, St Thomas Leesfield, St Agnes, St Hugh, Salem Moravian, Springhead Congregational, Zion Methodist and the Salvation Army Churches all joined together for a packed service at St Thomas.
Walkers in Royton, including Trinity Methodist, Moravian and St Paul’s churches, enjoyed a morning march.
They were joined by the Friezland Brass Band for their loop which took in Middleton Road before each church returned for separate services.
