Oldham attacker goes 200 miles to Bath to hand himself in
AN Oldham thug who punched a man in Bath during a night out, travelled almost 200 miles to hand himself to police
Christopher Riley (23) was spurred into making the journey to Somerset after spotting himself attacking the man on BBC’s “Crimewatch” show.
An appeal had been put out on the show to try and identify the offender who floored the victim with a single punch on February 14 this year.
Shocking stills show Riley, of Patterdale Close, unleashing the devastating blow.
Another shot then shows him walking away from the man, 23-year-old Scott Huxtable, as he lies unconscious in the street following the unprovoked attack.
The incident happened at around 2.45am after both Riley and his victim had been out in the city.
Seeing the images on national television, Riley then caught a train to Bath to admit the crime at a local police station — within hours of appearing on the show on May 2.
He pleaded guilty to a charge of assault at Bath’s Magistrates Court and will next appear on Friday, June 22 for sentencing.
The court heard how his university student victim hit his head on a drain and required hospital treatment.
