Two hurt in mill blast
Date published: 29 May 2012
A dramatic fire in Littleborough could be seen by people in High Crompton yesterday.
Firefighters battled an inferno at the Stansfield Mill in Calderbrook Road from around 1pm, with burning silos of solvent causing the thick plume of black smoke.
Two workmen aged 23 and 40 were taken to hospital. One was treated for burns to his arm; the other sprayed by bitumen, police reported.
The mill stored roofing products and other inflammable chemicals and gases. Crews got the fire under control by around 4pm but remained on the scene overnight.
