Residents have that sinking feeling

A HOLE lot of trouble . . . residents Raymond and Hilary Jones and Norma Race show the state of the road
RESIDENTS living on a Delph street face a hole lot of annoyance.
Norma Race and her neighbours say they’ve reached the end of the road with Oldham Council over potholes and subsidence on Springwood estate.
Seventy year old Norma says the street hasn’t been resurfaced for nearly 40 years and, after a series of accidents and damage to cars, she and fellow residents have had enough.
“They say the last time this road was resurfaced it belonged to the West Riding of Yorkshire. We became part of Lancashire in 1974 so you can tell how long ago it was,” said Norma.
“My husband Brian fell in a pothole a few years ago and badly broke his leg. I’ve had to have the suspension repaired on a relatively new car and lots of other neighbours have fallen or had their vehicles damaged due to the road’s poor condition. We’re sick of being fobbed off by the council. They come and fill in a few potholes, then it’s as bad as ever in a few months.”
Councillor Dave Hibbert, Cabinet member for housing, transport and regeneration, said: “Inspectors have visited the estate and patched potholes judged to be a safety risk. The most recent repairs were made this week.
“The council will consider whole-road resurfacing as part of a borough-wide programme.”
