Tragedy family wants to keep tradition

RELATIVES of Alan Chamberlain, the dad killed at the Greenfield band contest in 2010, have insisted they want the tradition to continue.
They have publicly given their support to the village extravaganza, at which Alan died when he was hit by a coach.
It follows a decision to lodge legal action alleging negligence against the committee, which is covered by public liability insurance.
This, relatives say, was an individual decision made by Alan’s widow and is not the view taken by his family as a whole. A close family member said: “Many of us live in Saddleworth and have attended the Whit Friday band contest for many years.
“Under no circumstances would we like to see the event come to an end, a sentiment we know would have been shared by Alan himself.
“This fact is evidenced by our decision last year to commission a memorial trophy that is awarded to the best youth band in Greenfield.
“We would like to wish the current committee members the very best of luck in finding replacements, to ensure the event can continue long into the future.”
