WATER poured into the building after lead flashing was stripped by thieves
LEAD thieves have forced the temporary closure of the under-threat Crompton pool and gym.
Managers had to shut the doors yesterday morning after rain flooded into the building during the recent downpours, soaking electrical systems. Power has been disconnected until it dries.
Joanne Neild, fitness team leader at Crompton Pool, said the theft could have happened anytime in the last three weeks, but only became evident during recent heavy rain.
The blow comes as the community is fighting to save the Shaw facility from closure as part of council’s controversial shake up of leisure centres.
