MOVE over “The Voice” and “Britain’s Got Talent” — the only stage to be on this year is at the People’s Carnival.
The event — in the town centre on Saturday, June 23, and at Alexandra Park on Sunday, June 24 — has attracted its biggest number of applications since it began in 2006. This year, Oldham Academy North has sponsored the stages.
“It just goes to show how much talent there is in our town,” said an Academy spokesman. The three stages we have sponsored will offer opportunities for young people to display their talents to live audiences and may be a springboard for some of them.”
As well as the Main Stage and the Lion’s Den Stage at Alexandra Park, this year’s carnival back to its original weekend slot, with a stage in the town centre on the Saturday as part of the event.
With the arrival of the Olympic Torch on Sunday, June 24, it will be a huge weekend for the borough. The torch arrives in Ashton Road at 10.30am and then festivities at the park begin at noon.
