Ivy Howard
ONE of Oldham’s oldest residents, Ivy Howard of Scouthead, has died at the age of 105.
Mrs Howard, who kept herself fit by taking exercise classes well into her nineties, died peacefully in her sleep at home last Wednesday.
Her secret for long life was not smoking, not drinking too much and keeping herself active, she previously told the Evening Chronicle.
Mr Howard had lived with her daughter Aileen Wood, of Lower Turf Lane, since 1970.
Mrs Wood said: “She would have the odd tipple of sherry and she would come line-dancing with me.
“She lived here, but the house was split into two and she lived upstairs, because she was really fit until probably the last 12 months.”
Mrs Howard’s funeral takes place at Oldham Crematorium on Thursday at noon.
