Dave Biggs and Dave Holland of Saddleworth Morris men braved last year’s event
THRILLS and spills will be twice as nice at this year’s Saddleworth Show, which for the first time occupies the whole weekend.
With the closure of Churchill Playing fields in Greenfield, the 2012 spectacular looked like it could be scrapped. But Rotary Club organisers have found a new venue — Saddleworth School, Uppermill — and have come back bigger than ever tomorrow (noon-5pm) and Sunday (10am-5 pm).
Show director Stan Bowes said: “I’m really excited to have the school on board. We always thought about the idea of having a two-day show, but being outside it was never an option we could deliver. Now we can. The school gives us indoor facilities and more opportunities and a more interesting site layout.
“The event is going through real evolution this year and the move has made us completely re-evaluate the show.”
Despite downpours, last year’s event still managed to make £17,000 for local and national charities.
