Work of lobbyists in the spotlight
Date published: 08 June 2012
OLDHAM West and Royton MP Michael Meacher is to speak out about the dangers of corporate lobbying.
The issue of lobbying’s influence on public policy is a hot topic following the “cash for access” scandal in which former Conservative Party Treasurer Peter Cruddas was caught offering access to the Prime Minister to party donors, as well as the continuing controversy surrounding Rupert Murdoch’s lobbying during the BSkyB control bid.
Mr Meacher will address lobbying transparency at a public meeting tonight, from 7 to 9pm, at the Friends’ Meeting House, 6 Mount Street, Manchester.
Manchester Withington MP John Leech will also speak in the debate, hosted by the Greater Manchester for Greater Democracy group.
