VICTIM . . . Razu Khanum
A COMMUNITY has been left in shock by the brutal killing of a mother whose throat was slashed.
A relative has been charged with the murder of Razu Khanum (38), who was found with severe head injuries and a cut to her throat in her home on Matthew Close — a cul-de-sac off Abbeyhills Road, Glodwick, on Friday morning.
Razu was pronounced dead on arrival at the Royal Oldham Hospital.
Police cordoned off the detached house and its surroundings while forensic teams scoured the area for evidence. A knife was recovered from the home.
A female neighbour said: “They’ve not lived here long. The police told me what had happened. It’s frightening to think this could happen so close to home and in the middle of the day.”
Another neighbour said: “It’s such a horrible thing to happen. It’s not something you think would happen on your street. I feel so sorry for her children.”
Detective Chief Inspector Pete Marsh confirmed police are treating the woman’s death as a domestic incident. He added: “We have a team of detectives working to establish the full circumstances. I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time or may have seen or heard something to contact police as soon as possible.”
Information should be passed to police on 0161 856 4711 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555 111.
Foyez Ahmed (31), also of Matthew Close, has been charged with murder and was due to appear at Oldham Magistrates’ Court today.
