POUND plan . . . Dom Corbett (left) and Ben Saggerson
KIND-HEARTED music maestros went out of their way to help Oldhamers after learning of high poverty levels in parts of the borough.
Ben Saggerson and Dom Corbett organised a night of music at gig venue Jackson’s Pit and distributed the £140 profits across different parts of Oldham.
Teaming an individual £1 coin with a flyer calling it “not a pound, but an opportunity”, they described ways residents could put the £1 to good use in an attempt to make life that little bit better.
Options included buying some food for a child or even using the money to print out CVs for job applications.
Ben said: “After seeing a story saying that Higginshaw was one of the poorest areas in the country, the idea started formulating in my head. The news really saddened me, so I thought it would be a great idea to give some money away.
“Oldhamers have had a bad time of it recently, with lots of upheaval. Times are hard, but if we can just brighten up one person’s day with this idea, that will be a great thing.”
