Henry Winkler — school visit
TOMORROW will be a happy day for pupils at North Chadderton School when The Fonz drops into assembly.
American actor Henry Winkler — who played the legendary US comedy character in the long-running series “Happy Days”, will visit the school as part of the First News My Way campaign, which raises awareness of the needs of children with learning difficulties.
He will be joined by Nicky Cox MBE, editor of the children’s newspaper First News.
Henry, who is dyslexic, said: “School was unbelievably hard for me. Teachers didn’t know what dyslexia was so I was labelled a troublemaker — I got a bad grade in everything but lunch.
“Just because we learn differently, that does not mean we are not incredibly smart human beings. That’s something I need every child to understand.”
Despite dyslexia, the much-loved actor and director has become a best-selling author of children’s novels.
He was awarded an OBE in the 2011 New Year Honours List for the work he does for children with learning difficulties.
