PC death case goes to crown court

AN Oldham lorry driver accused of causing the death of a police officer has had his case referred to Crown Court.
Andrew Abernethy (45), of Rembrandt Walk, is charged with causing the death by dangerous driving of PC Mark Goodlad.
The police car and another car were stationary on the hard shoulder. PC Goodlad was between the cars as he helped aa 51–year–old female driver, who suffered minor injuries.
Abernethy, who is on bail, appeared briefly at Wakefield Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
He will appear at Leeds Crown Court on Wednesday, June 20.
