PROUD pupils have been selected to carry out a task of Olympic proportions.
Eight students from Hodge Clough Primary School in Moorside will form a guard of honour at the start of Athletes’ Parade, the procession from the Olympic Village to the Olympic Stadium, immediately prior to the opening ceremony in London on Friday, July 27.
Patrick Connor, Matthew Wilson, George Symons, Oliver Morrow, Natasha Watkins, Georgia Cook, Holly Higgins and Lucy Fothergill will form part of a 2,000-strong guard holding lanterns and banners created to support 10,500 athletes from 204 competing teams.
They will also tour the Olympic village and stadium before the world tunes in for the hotly-anticipated opening ceremony.
Hodge Clough has been selected through the reward and recognition programme of the Get Set network, the official London 2012 education programme, along with 249 other schools nationwide. It is the only Oldham school selected.
