Town centre’s big weekend!

Carnival and Olympic Torch Relay mean double fun for all
OLDHAM town centre is gearing up for one of its busiest weekends of the year with the double attractions of Oldham’s People’s Carnival and the Olympic Torch Relay.
First it’s the turn of the Carnival as it sets up stage in the town centre before its second day of fun in Alexandra Park.
Then, on Sunday morning, the Olympic Torch that has been pulling the crowds wherever it has been all over the British Isles, passes through Oldham on its route towards the opening ceremony of the games in just 37 days time.
The big weekend is a welcome boost for the town-centre shops who have been badly hit by the recession and the ongoing Metrolink roadworks.
Support your town and support the local businesses by coming in to Oldham to join in the fun!
See Friday’s print and eChron editions for all the details of the big weekend.
