Decision day for Lancaster site
Date published: 20 June 2012
THE GRADE-II-listed Lancaster Club site could be turned into homes for 140 families and a commerical soccer centre with 10 artificial mini-pitches if a planning application is approved tonight.
The historic Failsworth club building and its surroundings were previously the subject of a controversial plan to relocate Oldham Athletic.
The new proposals would see an extensive development for residential, commercial and leisure use.
Houses with up to five bedrooms will be positioned around the 18th century club building, which will house nine flats on the first and second floors and a community centre
Under the plans — which will be decided by Oldham’s planning committee tonight — existing pitches would be moved to a site in Limeside Road, Oldham and allotments would be moved toa different part of the site, increasing the number of plots in the process.
The plans also provide for restaurants, cafes, a pub and a shop.
