THE historic Lancaster Club will be converted into nine new homes and a community centre.
Oldham’s planning committee approved the change to the Grade II-listed Failsworth building, which includes plans for140 homes on the site.
A commercial soccer centre with 10 short pitches will also be opened on the club’s Broadway site following approval of the plans. Existing pitches will be moved to a site in Limeside Road, Oldham. Present allotments will be moved to a different part of the site and increased in number.
Oldham Council is now looking for a partner for the development, which includes shops, offices, restaurants and cafes.
Council leader Jim McMahon said: “The Lancaster Club site offers huge potential for high-quality homes which Failsworth and the surrounding area needs.”
