Number up for dealer who sold clocked car
Date published: 26 June 2012
AN Oldham motorist was shocked to discover her new car had been driven 100,000 miles more than it displayed.
Mohammad Ikram Choudhry was prosecuted by Oldham Council for selling the clocked vehicle.
The second-hand Nissan Figaro had been imported from Japan where it had travelled more than 124,000 miles. When it was sold in Oldham the mileage reading was only 24,000.
The car was offered for sale by Sewa International UK Ltd, based in Shaw Road, Oldham.
After buying the car the customer checked the vehicle’s mileage with records in Japan and, after discovering it had been clocked, contacted Trading Standards.
Choudhry, acting on behalf of Sewa International, had failed to check the car’s mileage was correct. Choudhry was fined £500 with £1,500 costs by Oldham magistrates.
