Bid to slash service costs

A PRIVATE contractor will take over full control of an equipment service which enables children and disabled adults to live at home.
Ross Care currently works with Age Concern Oldham to supply equipment on prescription. Devices are collected from Age Concern’s town centre shop — but only a fifth of clients can get there, adding substantial delivery costs. Ross Care believes it can supply the same equipment 20 per cent cheaper, saving £100,000 a year. Savings will come partly from recycling unneeded devices.
Though the joint arrangement is to end, the council will support Age Concern in setting up a shop at the Link Centre in Union Street next month. Discussions are taking place to provide rent-free premises and a small grant to permit direct sales.
