Disaster relief fund activated
Date published: 27 June 2012
A DISASTER Relief Fund has been organised for the victims of the explosion.
Forever Manchester looks after Greater Manchester Disaster Relief Fund on behalf of Greater Manchester local authorities. It’s a special fund that is used to support the victims of both large-scale and personal disasters.
The fund helps to cover the cost of immediate relief to victims, such as providing families with clothes and furniture.
The money that is used for these grants has been kept in trust following fundraising from the Woolworths fire of 1979, the Manchester Airport disaster of 1985 and the 1996 Manchester City Centre bombing.
A spokesman said: “We are currently looking in to how the fund can support the victims, but also we’d like to invite the public to support the families that have been affected.”
To contribute go to www.localgiving.com/forevermanchester or send a cheque made payable to Forever Manchester (marked “Shaw”) to Forever Manchester, 5th Floor Speakers House, 39 Deansgate, Manchester, M3 2BA.
