£3m boost for community care planned

A multi-million pound investment in health services aims to prevent more local patients from ending up in hospital.
Oldham Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust and CCGs from Bury and Rochdale have committed £3million to improve home or community services.
The three-year investment will build on existing services and improve integration between health and social care and reduce bureaucracy.
Plans include providing education to help people look after their own health, bringing together physical and mental health and social care, using specialised technology to assist patient care and and provide more nursing care to patients.
John Archer, chief executive of Pennine Care, said: “A large number of patients who end up in hospital could actually be cared for in the community with some additional support, and so we want to ensure that patients only spend time in hospital if they really need to.”
