Big W furniture store - closed
Customers have been left high and dry after the unannounced closure of an Oldham furniture company.
One customer was left almost £200 out of pocket and a supplier has lost £6,000 of stock in the sudden closure of Big W Discount Store on the Laurel Trading Estate in Shaw. The store sells factory outlet furniture and appliances for the home.
A spokesman for Designer Trade Furniture, the factory at the rear of the Big W building and which supplied some of the store’s furniture, said: “I didn’t have many dealings with him. He just used to come in and collect the suites then leave. All I know is that on Saturday morning the store was full but by Sunday it was empty.
“Some of our stock has gone because we used to display it in there. I’ve had people come and ask me what is going on but I don’t know much myself yet.”
The Oldham Chronicle’s calls to manager Waqas Mahmood went unanswered.
