A DRIVER from Oldham has been jailed for causing the death of a great-grandfather in a head-on crash.
Vykintas Semezys (21) of Chester Street was found guilty of causing death by careless driving by a majority verdict at Bolton Crown Court. He was cleared of causing death by dangerous driving.
Victim Alexander Nicholson (77), of Westhoughton, died three days after the crash near the Watergate Island roundabout on December 5 last year in Over Hulton. Semezys had lost control of his car as he tried to take the first exit. Instead he ploughed into Mr Nicholson’s car.
Witnesses told the court Semezys was driving above the 40mph speed limit, lost control and went on to the wrong side of the road.
