COMPASSIONATE residents are rallying together to raise funds for their neighbours in need.

Lots of fund-raisers are being set up with proceeds going to the Oldham Distress Fund, set up by Oldham Council.

Aaron Buckley (27) is organising a bike ride from Shaw to Blackpool and so far has 10 willing riders.

They are setting off from the Shay Wake pub in Shaw at 9am on Sunday, July 8.

Singer Leah Nation, from Bolton, has arranged a family day with great entertainment at The Greyhound Inn in Royton on July 8.

Competing in the Manchester Big Fun Run on August 11 for the fund are Trixie Gorman, her partner Shaun Boyce and their son, Liam (3), from Campania Street, Royton.

Paul Osbaldiston, chairman of Congress Players and in conjunction with the Playhouse2 committee, has arranged that all proceeds from the Tuesday performance of the musical “Bad Girls”, showing at Shaw Playhouse2 (7.30pm), will benefit the fund.

Daniel Flanagan (26), from Royton, is looking for a pitch to play a fund-raising football match at 11am on Sunday, July 8. High Crompton Conservative Club is hoping to play Cartshaft and get residents paying to watch.

If anyone can offer a free playing space, contact him on 07595-268 511.

Donations are also being collected at Liquid & Envy nightclub in Oldham this weekend.
