RELIEF . . . . Marjorie Coppinger with her dress and suitcase
FIREFIGHTERS came to the aid of a Shaw grandmother who thought she was going to miss a proud family moment.
Marjorie Coppinger (65) was due to go to Birmingham on Saturday to watch her 23-year-old grandaughter, Private Haylie Cailleau, receive a medal for her service in Afghanistan.
But Marjorie’s special outift was stuck in her home in Chancery Lane, yards from the blast site.
The fire service came to the rescue and retrieved the dress and suitcase.
Marjorie said: “I can’t thank the firefighter enough, he was a darling. From the bottom of my heart all my family want to thank him. I really thought I was going to miss the ceremony.
The fire service’s police liaison officer Kev McDermott said: “I was up at the cordon and I could see a distraught woman.
“Our crews got her suitcase and purse so she could still go to Birmingham.”
