Tears at candlelit service as mourners pay tribute

HUNDREDS paid their respects to Jamie Heaton at a candlelit service in Shaw on Saturday night as mourners lit candles inside and outside St James’ Church.
Many of the congregation were in tears as they listened to Eric Clapton’s song “Tears in Heaven”.
The service was attended by Shaw councillor Mark Alcock, who said it was “such a sad time.”
And councillor David Dunning, the new chairman of Shaw and Crompton Parish Council, paid tribute to the toddler during his civic service on Sunday.
The traditional parade before the service had been cancelled as a mark of respect.
Mr Dunning said: “On behalf of the parish council I want to thank all the emergency services, the people who have organised, looked after, fed and clothed those in distress because of this tragic disaster in Shaw and for their hard work and dedication.
“Thank-you to the people of Shaw and Crompton for being a good neighbour.”
