OLDHAM Council’s chief executive has praised the community for its “phenomenal contribution” since the Shaw explosion.
Charlie Parker said the council had been inundated with donations of clothes and other goods for those affected.
He reassured the public that support is still available.
“There has been a tremendous community contribution,” he said.
“But we are asking people not to bring in any more contributions at this moment so we can organise and distribute the fantastic and generous donations we have already received.
“We would ask people to instead to donate to the Oldham Distress Fund.”
This week the authority is expected to identify specific needs still required and make appeals at that time.
People can make financial donations to the Oldham Distress Fund over the phone by calling 0161-770 6611.
