Street star backing for bike campaign

ALL togged up: Shobna Gulati
“CORONATION Street” star Shobna Gulati is backing a campaign to get motorists to swap four wheels for two.
The Oldham actress, who plays Sunita Alahan in the ITV soap, is an ambassador for the Get On campaign which encourages the benefits of riding a motorbike or scooter instead of driving a car.
With spiralling fuel costs, rising insurance premiums and increasing road tax, motorbikes and scooters offer a cheaper alternative to four wheels while also helping to beat traffic and congestion.
Oldhamers can follow in the footsteps of Shobna and sign up at their nearest training school at www.geton.co.uk.
So far, 3,862 people from Lancashire have done a free one-hour lesson, of whom around 2,000 have gone on to further training or actually bought a motorbike.
The two-wheel converters are reckoned to have saved over £400,000 in fuel and 54 hours per person of commuting time — since traffic jams have little effect on riders.
