THE fire at Higher Castleshaw Farm
A FIERCE blaze ripped through an ancient farmhouse in historic moorland last night.
Flames lit up the sky over Castleshaw Valley, Delph, as firefighters battled to control the blaze at Higher Castleshaw Farm. The occupant, an elderly woman, was unharmed.
The farm is down a narrow, winding track at the junction of Bleak Hey Nook Lane and Dirty Lane, near the site of ancient Roman forts.
Nicola Kirkham, a Saddleworth parish councillor, who lives close to the scene, said: “I was in the kitchen when I saw clouds of black smoke billowing from the farm. It was all very dramatic.”
