A BATTALION which recruits soldiers from Oldham is facing the axe under major plans to restructure the Army.
The frontline 2nd Battalion, the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, which has strong links to Greater Manchester, will be scrapped by 2020. Soldier Joseph Etchells (22), from Mossley, who died after an explosion in Afghanistan in 2009, served in the battalion.
