Meacher in rant over Tory housing policy

THOUSANDS of Oldham families in desperate need of housing are suffering because the Tories want to “privatise everything”, according to Oldham MP Michael Meacher.
The MP claims the Tories refuse to allow a public sector-led housing programme. Building houses and improving infrastructure would create jobs and reduce the benefit bill with more people in work, he says.
Mr Meacher added: “There is a clear social need for both of these things and we would also be creating jobs at the same time. What makes this such an irrefutable and powerful argument is that the Government desperately needs to grow the economy and by far the quickest way to do that is improve infrastructure and house building.
“The Tories are wilfully blind when it comes to this. Their ideology is to oppose the public sector having a lead in anything. They believe in the privatisation of everything. “
