Huge crowd make Mela mega

THOUSANDS of partygoers enjoyed a day of music, dance and traditional Asian cuisine at the Oldham Mela yesterday.
The annual event, at Alexandra Park is one of the biggest free festivals on the Asian calendar.
Headliner Abrar Ul Haq flew in specially from Pakistan for the event, hosted by Asian Sound Radio and BBC Asian Network and organised by voluntary youth team Mega Mela Group.
Acts such as H Dhami, Juggy D and Hunterz also played.
As well as the music and dance acts on stage, there was a funfair with traditional rides and attractions.
Visitors could also calm down with aromatherapy, reflexology and head massage.
Dozens of food outlets served up both traditional and contemporary dishes, and stalls sold clothing, jewellery, trinkets and spices.
Organiser Shaezad Chaudry said: “It was a fantastic event with more than 32,000 enjoying the acts and attractions.
“There was a fantastic atmosphere. ”
