Children’s home closed after inspection

A PRIVATE children’s home for youngsters with emotional, behavioural and mental health problems is closing after an “inadequate” rating by Ofsted

Local authorities have stopped placing children at Dove Hall, Glodwick following the rating. The watchdog is concerned about the high number of young people who go missing from the Netherhey Street home. Several young people also reported a significant amount of bullying.

Ofsted highlighted significant wear and tear at the home, with broken furniture and fittings and graffiti.

Ofsted said: “Insufficient financial resources mean that there is a delay is addressing urgent maintenance issues. The issues present health-and-safety hazards for young people and they mean that the home is not a homely, welcoming environment.” The home also had staffing issues - though inspectors praised the general attitude and caring of staff.

Owner Faria Khan opened Dove Hall two years ago when she struggled to find a placement for her autistic son. It caters for up to five children aged between 12 and 17 and Ms Khan confirmed that it would now close.
