Oldham DJ Nick Grimshaw says its a dream come true to take over the BBC Radio 1 breakfast show from Chris Moyles in September.
Nick (27) — known to listeners as “Grimmy” — is a former pupil of Our Lady’s High School in Royton.
He was declared the new presenter after Moyles told listeners he was bowing out of early-rising and early bedtimes.
Nick has been with Radio 1 for five years and also presents on Channel 4.
He is excited to take on the new job: “It’s been a dream of mine since the age of 11 and, to be honest, it hasn’t really sunk in yet. I love Chris and have always looked up to him as one of the best broadcasters ever.”
Radio 1 controller Ben Cooper said: “Nick is a great broadcaster with a passion for music and a mischievous sense of humour, which has made him a hit with our listeners. He will be an excellent host for Radio 1’s new breakfast show, bringing a new generation of listeners with him.”
