Catapult used in vandalism spree
Date published: 20 July 2012
POLICE now believe vandals on a wrecking spree in Royton and Crompton used a catapult, not an air rifle.
Windows were broken and cars damaged over several nights in Low Green, Trent Road, Fraser Street, Rochdale Road and Middleton Road.
Facebook site I Love Royton has messages claiming thousands of pounds of damage had been caused; victims feared a ball-bearing gun had been used.
But Insp Karen Taylor said: “We believe it was a catapult. We believe it is somebody in a car doing the route down on to Middleton Road. We have had 19 reports now - we are getting historical reports after people read about it in the Chronicle.”
Anyone with information should call Royton and Shaw police on 0161-856 4521 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800-555 111.
