Life pet ban for man who let dogs starve

A MAN who allowed his dog to starve to death will never be able to keep pets again.

Jason Victory (43), of Tate Street, Oldham, appeared for sentence at Oldham magistrates court yesterday after earlier pleading guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to his pets.

In January, RSPCA officers found the emaciated body of a 12-month-old Staffordshire bull terrier, Bruno, in a filthy suitcase outside his home.

Victory said he had found Bruno’s body earlier that day and didn’t know how the dog had died. He said the dog had deteriorated quickly and had been healthy a day earlier.

But Mark Harper, prosecuting for the RSPCA, said the dog died from severe emaciation and possible dehydration.

“In the words of the vet who treated him, the dog would have suffered for at least one month, but more likely several months, before he died.”

Bruno’s mother, four-year-old Brisco, was inside the house, alive but dangerously underweight. She has since made a full recovery. The RSPCA spent more than £400 nursing Brisco back to health

As well as the lifetime ban on keeping animals, Victory was given a 12-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months and ordered to do 150 hours of unpaid work. He was made to contribute £100 to the vet bill and £200 towards costs.
