Strong university placements for local pupils
Date published: 20 July 2012
NEW figures show no Oldham student made the grade for Oxford or Cambridge in 2009/10 — but locals secured more places at other prestigious universities than many areas.
Department for Education data shows 11 per cent of Oldham students that year studied at the leading Russell Group universities, which include Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester and London. The national average was eight per cent.
The figures show 23 per cent of pupils at Blue Coat went to Russell universities, followed by 21 per cent of Crompton House graduates. North Chadderton saw 12 per cent of pupils go on to study there, as did 11 per cent of Oldham 6th form college students and 14 per cent of Our Lady’s pupils.
