Director set to Caesar the day

IT’S notoriously difficult to take on Shakespeare — but a Royton-born director is remastering the master.

Adam Lee Hamilton has made the playwright’s Henry IV Part 1, for the younger generation. The red carpet was rolled out for the former film and media student for the screening at The Printworks in Manchester.

The film was made for the Co-operative British Youth Film Academy (BYFA) which lets students work with professionals to experience the thrills and challenges of movie making.

The BYFA produced the four Shakespeare history plays — Richard II, Henry IV parts one and two and Henry V, last year.

Since making that movie, Adam has co-directed Julius Caesar — selected for showing at the International Raindance Festival and premiered in London. He also co-directed The Rochdale Pioneers, starring Grasscroft-based actor John Henshaw, which tells the story of the birth of the retail movement.

Adam said: “To see the film on the big-screen is a proud moment for me, not least because it showcases the achievements of the young people involved in all aspects of its production.”

The young director is preparing for his next film, Friends of Money, a tale of murder and power in a Film Noir style.
