Metro cuts off library
Date published: 19 July 2012
INTERNET users at Oldham Library and Gallery Oldham have been cut off by Metrolink contractors who cut through a fibre optic cable.
Library staff fear the service may not be back until Monday, almost a week after access to the world wide web and the phones was cut off. The library’s internal book-lending system is unaffected.
Oldham’s Local Studies and Archive building was also cut off, but power was restored yesterday.
Transport for Greater Manchester, which oversees the Metrolink work in Oldham, said: “We are investigating how this has happened and we will be working closely with Oldham Council in carrying out the necessary repairs.”
