HOW it all could look . . . the cinema and leisure complex
AN overwhelming thumbs-up has been given to the transformation of Oldham’s old town hall into a cinema-led leisure complex.
More than 400 people were in favour of blockbuster plans revealed in May to change the Grade-II listed building — with just a handful against the proposals.
The innovative vision for the town centre landmark was showcased to the public at a consultation event in the building’s dormant Egyptian Rooms.
More than 90 per cent of those asked to fill in a questionnaire were for the building’s conversion into a family leisure facility incorporating eight cinema screens and restaurants.
The development, expected to bring 200 jobs to the area, brought in more than 100 individual positive comments.
Oldham Council is hoping to submit a planning application for the building in the near future.
