Community rallies to raise £10,800
Date published: 24 July 2012
People from Shaw rallied together at the weekend in two fund-raisers for Michelle and Kenny Heaton — the parents of two-year-old blast victim Jamie.
Comedy dancers, singers and a raffle helped to raise over £500 at Tara Leisure on Saturday, and on Sunday sunny weather provided perfect conditions for a charity cricket match between players in the Central Lancashire League (CLL) and Saddleworth Cricket Team at Royton Cricket Club.
The CLL team was bowled out for 136, with Saddleworth reaching its target with four overs to spare.
Ten bands performed and the event attracted more than 1,000 people.
The game raised £5,500, added to £4,800 from an auction of sporting memorabilia.
