Date published: 24 July 2012
A MIDWIFE has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter after a baby bled to death following a circumcision in Oldham.
Grace Adeleye (66) appeared in the dock at Manchester Crown Court on Friday, where she denied the charge of manslaughter by gross negligence. She is accused of killing tot Goodluck Caubergs, on April 17, 2010.
Adeleye, of Sarnia Court, Salford, was granted conditional bail when she appeared in court.
According to defence counsel Neil Fryman, she had planned to visit her husband in Nigeria later this year. Under her bail conditions she has been forced to forfeit her passport, as well as agree to stay in the UK and not apply for travel documents. She must also not perform any circumcisions.
Her trial is set to begin on November 26.
