THE head of the North-West Counter Terrorism Unit reassured Oldham residents that everything is being done to prevent acts of terrorism in the borough.
Following Friday’s jailing of Oldham husband and wife Mohammed Sajid Khan and Shasta Khan, Det Chief Supt Anthony Mole said: "It is impossible to say what their specific targets may have been because we arrested the couple before any such attack could be carried out. I want to stress that we have found no evidence to suggest this couple were collaborating with anyone else.”
“My appeal is to anybody, no matter what community: if you know of someone who begins to develop extremist views, then tell us straight away.
"We must acknowledge the dangers posed by relatively easy access to online publications. The Khans did not need to travel to Pakistan or Afghanistan; the knowledge they needed to commit a terrorist act was available at the click of a few buttons from the confines of their own home.
"The North-West Counter Terrorism Unit will always act on credible information that extremist websites are being accessed and we will never hesitate when there is evidence of possible terrorist activity.”
