Local sport loses out on legacy bid
Date published: 27 July 2012
OLDHAM has missed out on a share of £19.4 million distributed to sporting groups across the country as part of the Olympic legacy.
But council chiefs stress that Oldham groups may be more successful in future bids, with another £10 million now available from Sport England.
The grants were distributed to 377 community sports projects from the National Lottery as part of the Inspired Facilities Fund for London 2012’s legacy programme.
An Oldham Council spokesman said the council and local sports groups have successfully applied for similar grants.
The process isn’t as simple as applying for money and receiving it. Applicant authorities have to match any grant pound for pound: to get a £100,000 grant, the council woul have to find anothr £100,000 from somewhere else.
