Silent protest at Oldham War Memorial
AROUND a dozen people gathered around Oldham’s war memorial to stage a 15-minute silent protest against controversial Ministry of Defence cuts.
Ten yellow balloons were released as a symbol of peace in a protest which co-incided with similar events held across the country
Former soldier Alan Noble, from Coldhurst, spoke out ahead of the protest to urge Oldhamers to join the fight.
He served with the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers for a quarter of a century, and was angered at the prospect that the regiment’s second battalion could go in the biggest Ministry of Defence overhaul in decades.
