FAMILY: Allyson and Mark, with daughter Katie
A MUM facing a gruelling cancer battle had a day to remember when she renewed her wedding vows.
Allyson Richardson-Smethurst (36) was originally diagnosed with bowel cancer in March, 2010.
She was dealt a second blow when the cancer returned in February.
Since then, she has vowed to create special memories for husband Mark (40) and daughter Katie — starting with the renewal of their wedding vows.
The couple enjoyed the ceremony with 170 friends and family members who gathered at Waterhead Parish Church, before celebrating into the night at a lavish reception.
When Allyson shared her plans with the Chronicle last month, a spate of local companies offered help with the celebration.
One company offered free flowers, a photographer gave up a day’s work to capture the evnt and Allyson was even given a big discount off the price of her dress. Local singers and bands also performed at the couple’s evening reception.
She said: “The day was absolutely amazing, The service was absolutely lovely and the reception was out of this world. My husband really enjoyed it and Katie looked absolutely stunning.
“To see so many people in the church was overwhelming. You don’t realise how blessed you are.”
Allyson is now set for yet another operation to remove another tumour.
Allyson said: “It’s another setback but I’m not going to let it ruin me.”
