RISING to the challenge . . . Mick Sheehan is preparing for the Lakeland 50
AN Oldham businessman is about to face one of the most gruelling sporting challenges.
Mick Sheehan is currently limbering up for this weekend’s Lakeland 50, a race over tough terrain.
Mick, who runs Home Instead Senior Care in Oldham and Saddleworth, decided to undertake the epic trek as a personal challenge. as well as raising money for Dr Kershaw’s Hospice.
He has been training hard for the 50-mile endurance race between Ullswater and Coniston — one of the biggest running and walking challenges in the world, on which there is a strict time limit of 24 hours.
The punishing course covers over 3,000m of climbs and runs across rough terrain, often in difficult conditions.
Mick said “We want to finish — but it would be nice to get anything under 15 hours.
“It’s probably going to be the hardest thing I’ve ever done.”
