Sword threat horror
Date published: 26 July 2012
A GANG of thieves forced their way into a family’s home to threaten a 17-year-old boy with a sword in front of his shocked mum and sisters.
Six men ransacked rooms and stole money, valuable jewellery, mobile phones and other property from the house in Epping Close, Chadderton.
The ordeal began at 10.25pm last Thursday when the teenager heard a knock at the door.
A man pushed him back into the house and up against a wall, threatening him with a sword as five more men ran into the living room — where the boy’s mum and 14 and 18-year-old sisters were sitting.
The raiders grabbed the 17-year-old and his mother and ransacked the house before running off with their haul
The man who burst though the door is described as white, aged about 35, around 5ft 7in tall and skinny. He wore a high-visibility jacket.
One of the other raiders is black, about 28, 5ft 11in and heavily built. He wore dark blue jeans, a black hooded top and grey woollen gloves. A third man is Asian, about 35, 5ft 5in and skinny. He wore a mask. There are no descriptions of the other raiders.
Det Cons Andrew Day, from Oldham CID, said: “Anyone who has been a victim of this sort of robbery will know what they are going through. I want to reassure residents we are doing all we can to identify the men responsible.”
He asks anyone who knows of men selling or pawning jewellery to get in touch.
Call Oldham CID on 0161-856 8951 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
