Strike up the band for White Rose day
Date published: 27 July 2012
THE White Rose will be out in force on Sunday when Saddleworth marks Yorkshire Day.
The event begins at 11.15am when a brass band performs at Saddleworth Museum gardens in Uppermill, followed by a reading of the “Yorkshire Declaration”.
The chairman of Saddleworth Parish Council, Councillor Brian Lord, will place a garland of white roses on the statue of renowned local poet Ammon Wrigley.
There will then be a parade along High Street to King George V playing fields, where there will be a country fair with free admission.
Yorkshire Day is marked on August 1 but in Saddleworth it was decided to celebrate the occasion on a Sunday to attract maximum attendance.
